REPORT FROM THE WALK:

From Susa Österlund-Toivonen:

I am so honored to write to you. I was asked to present a spectator’s point of view of the EarthWalk.

I am program coordinator for a week long festival going on right now, here in Helsinki, Finland called LOISTE Festival. This year we are focusing on young people in the theatre and sponsoring street theatre productions, puppet theatre, mime, dance theatre and everything in between.

Earlier today, we were having some street theatre along a busy road in the Kluuvi Gloet district. A group of 8 young actors were performing a thing they had written about trying to get citizens involved in the issue of global warming.

Right in the middle of their performance, they were totally upstaged by 200 EarthWalkers coming down the Siltasaarenk. I don’t think you all know what an amazing sight you are. I know I have never seen a huge group of’ professional’ global walkers before! You all look so beautiful and dedicated and healthy and positive. It almost takes everyone’s breath away to see you.

I was so proud of our young people in the skit. Without missing a beat, they saw you coming, gathered up all their Global Warming signs, passed them out and suddenly we were seeing a full blooming people’s movement on the issue.

Thank you for coming to our city. You are inspiring more people than you know!

Our best wishes to you all.
