REPORT FROM THE WALK:

From Captain Nemo Menomenum:

Only about 700 miles from reaching New Guinea now. Tomorrow we should reach the small island of Palau and get a few supplies. There is another reason for stopping at Palau. On the island of Babelthaup there is an old sorceress who practices the religion of these islands called Modekngei. She has the ability to go into trance states and communicate to people in other realms. Through her we will be able to return the narrator’s email and give him a better idea of when we will be reaching the Australian Outback.

Now when we reach New Guinea we will have a very interesting experience. We will see how far up the Mamberamo River  we can get the ocean barge to navigate. This is a very uninhabited part of New Guinea. In the 1990’s a hydro power dam project was planned for this river, but when the Indonesian economies collapsed, the plan was abandoned. There are many undocumented indigenous tribes in this area. Over 5% of the unknown plants and insects of the planet can be found in this area. It is a deeply mysterious place. We will follow the east branch of the river all the way up into the mountains. Hope everyone is ready for the unexpected!

The

Asiatic

Exponential

Challenge

-         The contest started April 1 and the contest ends upon reaching the shores of Australia

-         each pound lost earns a base point

-         average miles per day of biking in Asia earn base points

-         average miles per day of walking in Asia earn base points multiplied by 2.14285714285714

-         average miles per day of jogging/running in Asia earn base points multiplied by 2.74285714285714

-         average miles per day of swimming in Asia earn base points multiplied by 7.34693877551021

-         base points earned will become the exponent of base 2 in determining free lunch points awarded

Here is an example of how the contest would work:

Joe Nibs loses one pound, runs 6 miles, walks 35 miles and bikes 20 miles in Asia.

It takes us 25 days to get to Australia. Here is what Joe earns in free lunch points:

Pound Lost – 1 base point

Running – 6 miles/25 days = .24 base points times the multiplier = 0.658285714285714 base points

Walking – 35 miles/25 days =  1.4 base points times the multiplier = 3 base points

Biking 20 miles/35 days = 0.571428571428571 base points

Add up all the base points and you get 5.22971428571428 base points

The base points are used as the exponent of base 2 which calculates to 37.52328 free lunch points (here it gets rounded to 38 points)

So here is truly your chance to “step on the gas” and be precisely rewarded.

FROM EARTHWALK COSMIC HEADQUARTERS IN OMAHAHA

We are so glad. Millie came wandering into the building yesterday morning. She had walked all the way from Las Vegas! That’s 2,000 miles! She’s just amazing. Wanted to go back to work immediately. We told her she had to have a veterinarian give her a medical clearance first, so after a night under medical observation, she was cleared this morning to return to her post.

Magnificent Millie’s

Milestones and Millstones!

Tribal Competition Heats Up

Gap at the top closing

Fondren Traders Tribe which has held a huge lead at times now stands at 5,211.88 miles followed by the Computer Co-op Scrolling Strollers at 4,861.00 miles.

Mississippi, Georgia, Minnesota and Texas all have passed the 1,000 mile mark.

50 Earthwalkers have now passed 100 miles.

Handicapper Tip: We have heard from a reliable source that sometime after we reach Australia, the Orangutan twins are going to announce a contest to guess the date that the EarthWalk completes its route and reaches it’s starting point.
