REPORT FROM THE WALK:

Letter from Martin Slayback to his family back in Arkansas:

Hi Mom – Hi Sis –

Sorry it took me so long to write. It’s hard to find the time, so much is happening. I’m so glad I am on this EarthWalk. Thanks for encouraging me to give it a try. I’ve met some really neat people and more keep joining us every day. Everyone is using the EarthWalk to get in better shape or lose weight or enjoy seeing the world. We are getting along great with each other and everyone helps everyone else.

A couple days ago we were in the mountains near Mexico City. It’s not like what we call mountains back home. It was a lot of work getting through that part of the trip.

We’ve had this neat guide named Juan. He’s an old Yaqui Indian. Really knows a lot about living outdoors. He brought us all the way to the ruins of this huge city called Teotihuacán. There we met his good friend Senior Genaro. I want to tell you all about this amazing place and what happened to us there. Teotihuacán was once the sixth largest city in the world. Over a quarter million people. But that was over fifteen hundred years ago. It was the biggest city in the Americas.

We got there in the middle of the night and Juan and Mr. Genaro talked with the guard for quite a while. Before long they were laughing really loud and having a great time. The guard let us through the gate into the city. I was told it was only the second time in over twenty years that people had been let in after the place closes at sunset. The place is huge – several miles big. We walked through the dark along paths between ruined buildings and across a large field and into this entrance of what looked like some pyramid shaped stone building. It was the Quetzalcoatl Temple.

We walked into a large room and a couple lanterns were lit. Mr. Genaro told us this was a very special place. We would be staying here until mid-morning. He told us to rest up. The beneficial influence of being in the temple would come to us through just breathing the air here and also through a deeper vibrational influence coming from the way the temple was constructed. The air in the temple was cool and moist. We settled in to rest and it was surprisingly comfortable. I fell asleep almost right away.

I woke up much later and saw people were coming and going from the temple. They looked like tourists. Soon Juan and Mr. Genaro said it was time to go. Juan said we were going to climb to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun, the largest pyramid in America. We were going to all sit at the top plaza at the top of this pyramid and perform a simple ceremony that had not been done for over fifteen hundred years!

We went out into the bright sun and walked up this wide avenue and climbed up the very steep side of the Pyramid of the Sun. There are over 150 of us now, so it is quite a big group.

At the flat top there was enough room for all of us to sit facing the center. There was a two foot square stone at the center. This archeologist from California placed this ornate little round thing on the rock and we sat for a couple more minutes until Juan gave a signal and the archeologist fellow opened up the ball and a goldish sphere with a mirror like surface was inside. He placed it on three small protrusions I had not noticed before near the center of the stone and sat back down. We were all looking at the sphere and it acted like there was a light bulb inside it or something, and it kept getting brighter. At about this same time, I noticed a tingling feeling in my spine.

What happened next is hard for me to describe. The light kept getting brighter so that you really couldn’t see much. I could see the people next to me sort of, but everything further away was just washed out by the light. The tingling in my spine kept getting stronger and I was losing any sense of weight or up or down. Next to me I saw Swami Walkalotta and he looked translucent – I could kinda see through him. I saw him rise up a bit and then I felt a jolt of energy. It was like someone had turned on a breaker switch and more energy was going through me than I thought possible. Swami shot up into the sky and was gone. The light got even brighter and I must have passed out. Some time later I woke up. Maybe it was just a few seconds later. I couldn’t tell. I was laying over against someone and it looked like everyone else was just waking up too. The light was back to normal and I saw the archeologist closing the case on the ball and putting it away. We couldn’t talk. Juan passed around a couple jugs of water. After we got our orientation back we went back down the pyramid and walked past the pyramid of the moon at the end of the long avenue and kept heading East.

Later in the afternoon we stopped for a rest and Mr. Genero, who had become our new guide, (I didn’t see Juan around anymore) sat down next to me. I asked him to explain what happened back there on the pyramid. He looked at me for a while like he was evaluating what I could be told. Then he laughed real loud and slapped me on the back.

“That was something wasn’t it!”

He pulled a sheet of paper out of his shirt pocket and unfolded it.

“Someone near the gate was watching and drew this picture”

“Some people say they saw a ball of light grow at the top of the pyramid, then some type of UFO appeared and beamed a light directly down at the pyramid and then this thing that this person drew happened.”

“That gold sphere, long ago, was kept in that city. The ceremony we did use to get done all the time. The people who lived there felt it made them smarter. They got good ideas after those ceremonies. They invented lots of things. Created good medicines. Lots of things.

Then the ball went missing. Probably stolen.

The people got stupid. They started doing human sacrifices on the pyramid thinking that would maybe get the gods attention and help them. But it didn’t work of course. It didn’t take long before the city was destroyed and abandoned.”

I guess I was stunned. I was staring at him with my mouth wide open. He pointed at me and laughed and laughed.

“You know what we did today was very important. We are beginning to restore a deep balance and harmony to the earth. There is much more to be done, and the people on this EarthWalk have chosen to take responsibility and do what needs to be done.”

Well, mom, sis, I’ve been thinking about all this a lot. We’re heading back down from the mountains toward a place near Veracruz on the gulf coast side of Mexico. I’ll write again when I get a chance.

Love, Martin
